A burst of gunfire from Peggy Carter’s machine gun engulfs the Hydra flamethrower soldier in a fiery explosion. Steve Rogers steps out from the corridor vestibule, meeting Peggy’s gaze.
“You’re late,” Steve says, a faint smile breaking through.
Peggy steps closer, her eyes glinting. “Weren’t you about to…”
Steve’s focus snaps back to the mission. “Right,” he says, striding to the metal doors where his vibranium shield is wedged. He yanks it free and slips through just as the doors slam shut, locking Peggy out.
In the cavernous hangar, the Red Skull climbs a ladder to the entry hatch of the massive Valkyrie flying wing, trailed by Hydra pilots. Allied soldiers in the hangar open fire, picking off the pilots one by one. The Red Skull, undeterred, enters the sprawling cockpit, lowering the glowing Tesseract into a blue reactor and securing it. He slides into the pilot’s seat, powering up the aircraft. On a video screen, he sets the “Ziel” (target) for New York City.
The Valkyrie’s mighty engines roar to life, the craft lumbering forward. Captain America pauses in the hangar bay, watching the colossal aircraft roll toward takeoff.
