In the Valkyrie<\/em>\u2019s cockpit, the Red Skull clutches the Tesseract, his body dissolving into a lurid stream of blue and red light. He screams as the energy blasts him upward through the cockpit\u2019s ceiling, vanishing into the cosmos toward an unknown fate. A shockwave of blue energy ripples outward from the aircraft, then fades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tesseract clatters to the metal grating, glowing fiercely. It melts through several layers of the Valkyrie<\/em>\u2019s hull, plummeting toward the ocean below. Steve watches it disappear, then retrieves his vibranium shield and strides to the pilot\u2019s chair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He removes his helmet, his eyes locking on the control panel. The display still lists \u201cNew York City\u201d as the \u201cZiel,\u201d the distance shrinking rapidly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the captured Hydra base, Colonel Phillips and Peggy Carter stand in a control room, Jim Morita monitoring radio traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steve\u2019s voice crackles over the radio. \u201cCome in, this is Captain Rogers, do you read me?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jim responds, \u201cCaptain Rogers, what is your\u2014\u201d but Peggy cuts in, her voice urgent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSteve, is that you? Are you alright?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPeggy, Schmidt\u2019s dead!\u201d Steve says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat about the plane?\u201d Peggy asks, her tone tense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steve takes a deep breath, glancing at the controls. \u201cThat\u2019s a little bit tougher to explain.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGive your coordinates, I\u2019ll find you a safe landing site,\u201d Peggy insists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steve\u2019s looks at a display showing several bombs still onboard. \u201cThere\u2019s not gonna be a safe landing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
