Inside Colonel Phillips\u2019 command tent in the Italian camp, the air is thick with tension. Phillips leans back, his face grim. \u201cI can spell,\u201d he says sharply. \u201cI have signed more of these condolence letters today than I would care to count. But the name does sound familiar. I\u2019m sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n
Steve Rogers, his jaw tight, presses forward. \u201cWhat about the others? Are you planning a rescue mission?\u201d<\/p>\n
Phillips scoffs. \u201cYes, it\u2019s called \u2018winning the war.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cBut if you know where they are, why not at least\u2014\u201d Steve starts, his voice urgent.<\/p>\n
Phillips cuts him off, his tone hard. \u201cThey\u2019re 30 miles behind the lines through some of the most heavily fortified territory in Europe. We\u2019d lose more men than we\u2019d save. But I don\u2019t expect you to understand that because you\u2019re a chorus girl.\u201d<\/p>\n
Steve\u2019s eyes flash with resolve. \u201cI think I understand just fine.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, then understand it somewhere else,\u201d Phillips snaps, standing up and walking to a file box. \u201cIf I read the posters correctly, you got someplace to be in 30 minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n
Steve looks at a map on the wall, a pin with an “H” flag on it showing the location of the Hydra base. \u201cYes, sir. I do,\u201d says Steve, leaving the tent.<\/p>\n
